These guidelines have been derived to answer many of the questions that have arisen within the pilot screening centres in England and Scotland, to ensure that key data are collected in a consistent manner and to enable further recommendations to be made to provide the best possible evidence base for routine practice.
The guidelines will be developed as the evidence base improves. They are consistent with the dataset produced by the Royal College of Pathologists for reporting colorectal cancer (including local excision specimens) and will be developed closely with them in the future.
