The NHS Breast Screening Programme continues to work closely, with units around the country, to deliver breast screening for all women aged over 50. A central part of our work is providing clear and concise information about breast screening. We are delighted to see that last year the number of women invited for breast screening continued to increase. Those who have taken up their invitations have benefited greatly from early detection and swifter access to treatment services.
We are strongly committed to a policy of informed choice. We aim to provide women with information so they can make the choice for themselves about whether or not to participate in breast screening. It was very pleasing to note the number of women accepting our invitation to attend last year increased, following a slight decline in 2004/5.
