In this year's annual review we look at some of the issues around breast screening that have continued to provoke discussion and debate while reviewing the progress made in taking forward the commmitments laid out in the 2007 Cancer Reform Strategy, including the age extension and the introduction of digital mammography.
The debate continues over the benefits of screening and informed choice. We are strongly committed to informed choice and aim to provide women with the necessary information so that they can decide whether or not to take part in the NHS Breast Screening Programme. Dr Joan Austoker of Oxford University discusses the importance of providing clear and relevant information in order to help women make that decision.
