Age Trial

The Age Trial was designed to study the effect on mortality of inviting women for annual mammography from age 40 years. Around 53,000 women aged 40 and 41 were invited for annual screening for eight or nine years. A control group of around 106,000 women, who were not invited for screening but received usual NHS care, were monitored for breast cancer over this period.
