This review describes the current activity within the programme and the statistics at the back of the review show the number of women accepting invitations for screening and the results of these smear tests.
A major event for us is the launch of a new national information initiative designed to give women clear and honest information about the benefits and limitations of cervical screening. This initiative has been rigorously researched, and adheres to advice given by the GMC, as well as tying in with the Data Protection Act, the Human Rights Act, the Disability Discrimination Act and changes in the NHS following the Bristol and Alder Hey enquiries. We very much hope that 'Informed Choice' will help women fully understand the implications of accepting, or declining their invitation for screening.
