The objective of this report is to provide a guide for planning and undertaking a costing of a part or a whole of the cervical screening programme in a defined area. It is based on experience gained in undertaking the costings exercise within the Oxford Region.
Part 1, the NCN report, is intended for those with either a general or specific interest in the cost of the cervical screening programme. It describes the rationale, background and method of activity based costing. The reasons for variability in costs and the potential for reduction in costs are discussed and will be of value in the negotiation of costs, prices and contracts between purchasers and providers and within individual departments.
Part 2, the action pack, is a practical guide for those who wish to undertake a costings exercise of the whole or of the part of the cervical screening programme.
